Call for

Short courses

The 50CBG Organizing Committee is now inviting proposals for short courses to be held at the 50º BRAZILIAN CONGRESS OF GEOLOGY from October 10 to 15, 2020 in Brasilia – DF, Brazil with the theme “Geology and Society: Building Bridges for a Sustainable Planet” and all proposals must be connected to at least one of our thematic sessions.

All proposals must be submitted through the official form provided below and must be received no later than March 13th, 2020.

1. Proposal submission guidelines

  • Short Courses can last 8, 12 or 16 hours
  • The short courses will be assembled during the pre congress period. The available dates are october 10 and/or 11, 2020.
  • The proposed course must be of high relevance for the geological community
  • Proposals must have:
    • Identification data
  • Short Course Title (50 words max.)
  • Lead organizer (name, institutional affiliation, email address)
    • Short Course Abstract (a brief overview of the objectives for the event, topics to be covered, and relevance to restoration science, practice or policy (250 words max.)
    • Main bibliography used


All proposals must be submitted through the provided form above up to no later than march 13th, 2020.

All submitted proposals will be peer-reviewed and can be accepted or rejected.

The official language of 50CBG is Portuguese, although we will accept proposals in english but note that there will not be simultaneous translation.

You will receive a confirmation message upon submission of your proposal after 5 business days. If for some reason you don’t receive this confirmation, please contact programacaocientificabrasil@mci-group.com to confirm that your proposal was received.

A representative from the Program Committee will notify you by March 27, 2020 as to whether your proposal has been accepted.

Note: Please do not submit a proposal unless you are confident that you will be able to fulfill your obligation to organize and conduct such an event

2. Short courses organizer responsibilities

The lead organize of the proposal will serves as the primary point of contact for 50CBG. This person should be readily available by email in the months leading up to the congress and is expected to be present at the event.

The congress will not cover any logistics expenses such as air tickets, hotel or ground transportation being the proponent responsibility to cover their own expenses for the congress.

3. Organizing committee responsibilities

  • The Organizing Committee will cover the proponent registration for full participation on the congress. (We will accept no more than 3 ministers)
  • Basic audiovisual equipment (any extra requirements beyond the basics offered must be asked at the submission form and will be evaluated by the organizing committee)

4. Cancellation policy

The organizing committee will establish a minimum number of registrations to make the short course avaiable . After the deadline all short courses that do not reach this number will be cancelled.

The free registration given to the ministers will be automatically cancelled, however they will be able to register themselves with the early bird rate.

5. Important dates

December 10th, 2019 – Short Courses Proposals submission period opens
March 13th, 2020 – Deadline for Proposal Submissions
Up to March 27, 2020 – Final batch of proposal acceptance notices sent
April 14th, 2020 – Short Courses Registrations Opens
September 16th, 2020 – Deadline for Short courses registrations
